About Me

I’m Mark, a data scientist based in Spokane, WA.

I did my PhD in physics at the University of Oregon, then spent a couple of years as a postdoc — first back at Oregon working on quantum networks with diamond defect centers, then at Duke working with trapped ions. After that I made the jump to industry and have been working as a data scientist ever since.

Most of my work has been in NLP and LLMs, applied to patent analytics and financial data. I’ve built everything from entity resolution systems and deep clustering pipelines to LLM-powered text processing at scale. My main tools are Python, PyTorch, and SQL, though the full list is long.

Outside of work I like to tinker with ML projects, which is mostly what you’ll find on this blog. I’m currently open to new opportunities — feel free to reach out on LinkedIn.
